Codes of Earth Today:A Cure for Anthropocene/George Marazakis

On 6th of May, 2019, the United Nations released a report, warning that species on earth is now decreasing and dying out at a unprecedented speed in human history and that at least 75% of the land and 66% of the oceans have been significantly changed by human beings. This will seriously impact the future of mankind. The report supports what scientists said in recent years that the earth is entering a new geological era, namely the Anthropocene.

Having driven over 3500 miles across Greece, the Greek photographer George Marazakis shot all sorts of landscapes, which are full of human traces. His photographs record subtle details of the intersection between human civilization and nature. Those details, which people often ignore and take for granted, however, are insidious and aggressive in George Marazakis’s images. They are symptoms for Anthropocene, indicating a looming crisis.
