Specimen: Herbs/ Li Chaohui
In the studio, I planted some small grass and filmed them from birth to death. The shortest shooting time was 15 days, and the longest was 238 days. The total number of shutter attempts was 538737. The presentation of the work can be single photos one by one, or as submitted in this case, it can be collaged together to tell stories one by one. In addition, it can also be a series of short videos.
The creative process of this work, as well as the work itself, appears simple and dull. It is entirely the result of my own lonely struggle in the face of the tedious and meaningless external world.
However, often friends who have watched this work say to me, "You’re not shooting grass, it’s clearly my real life." Such words are a great comfort to me, as if I have met a kindred spirit.
Actually, my explanation is not important at all. What you see from this work, what it reminds you of, your emotions, insights, and thoughts are what matter.
