Departure:Yale MFA Photography Group Exhibition
Introduction: From the outside, Yale Photo has a unified voice to explore the medium of photography and insists on finding value in the inherent properties of the medium. This has been the tradition since Walker Evans. From the inside, each artist is an independent individual, making dialogue with photography in his or her own way and resonating with the outside world through photography in a broader cultural layer.
This 2021 Yale MFA Photography group exhibition presents ten graduates’ works, including photographs, videos, and installation. They completed their studies during the epidemic and faced many restrictions and challenges beyond control. They dare to break the conventions of the medium we utilize, subvert the traditional seeing ways and narrative logic, in this way questioning the authenticity and representation of photography, and promoting to making the discourse behind critical images. They try to make a way forward in the age of uncertainty.
